Hilda L. Hollowell | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Hilda Augusta Lewis Hollowell, Age 92, a resident of Winterville, NC died Saturday January 16, 2021 just hours before her 93rd birthday.

    Due to the current pandemic, a private graveside funeral service for family will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington. The service will be officiated by Pastor Ben Crabtree. Pallbearers will be Allen Hollowell (grandson), Richard Hollowell (grandson), Ethan Hollowell (grandson), Gray Alston (great grandson), Seth Meade (great grandson), and Grant Meade (great grandson).

    Mrs. Hollowell was born in Beaufort County on January 17, 1928, daughter of the late Raymond Allen Lewis, Sr., and the late Lula Mae Gurkin Lewis. She attended Chocowinity High School. On June 30, 1945 she married the love of her life, Eldon Jerome Hollowell, Sr. She and Mr. Hollowell enjoyed seventy-three years together before he preceded her in death on April 4, 2018. In 1989 she retired as a line inspector at the former Burroughs Wellcome company in Greenville. Mrs. Hollowell leaves many Crochet pieces for family to treasure. She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Greenville.

    Survivors include four children: Gloria Ambrose (Linwood) of Chocowinity, Eldon "Jerome" Hollowell, Jr. (Vera) of Bath, Harry Allen Hollowell, Sr. of Winterville, and Joseph Paul Hollowell (Alison) of Greenville; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Hollowell was predeceased, along with her husband, by four brothers: Clyde, Osborne, Johnnie, and Allen Lewis.
