    Mr. Richard Swindell Craig, age 92, a resident of Beaufort County, died Thursday February 4, 2021 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

    Mr. Craig was born in Beaufort County on May 4, 1928 to the late Richard J. Craig. Sr. and Martha Latham Craig. He worked as a mason in construction until a dip in the economy where he sold vehicles for Lee Chevrolet. When the economy improved, he was hired by Wimco as a supervisor. Mr. Craig was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge # 675, Pantego Ruritan Club and he served on the board of the Town of Pantego.

    Survivors include his sister: Annie C. Allen; several nieces and nephews; his two stepsons: John Henry Respess, III and wife Ann of Wilmington, Larry Mitchell Respess and wife Brenda of Rocky Mount and two step grandchildren: Mitch Respess and Laura Respess.

    On December 21, 1974, he married Mary Lawrence Respess who preceded him in death on July 7, 2014. He is also preceded in death by four brothers: Doris Craig, Louis Craig, Holmes Craig and Richard J. Craig, Jr.; two sisters: Vivian Harris and Mary Carrow and a step granddaughter: Margaret Respess.
