    Mrs. Evelyn Joyce Hedgepeth Ausbon, age 86, a resident of Washington, NC died Sunday June 6, 2021 at her home.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday June 9, 2021 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Pastor Gary Bateman. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

    Mrs. Ausbon was born in Beaufort County on December 12, 1934, daughter of the late Robert Hatten Hedgepeth and the late Amy Campbell Hedgepeth. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and earned her Cosmetology diploma from Beaufort Tech. She married James Roy Ausbon, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 31, 1996. Her working career was at Lillian's Hair Salon as a beautician. She enjoyed reading and word games.

    Survivors include her children: James R. Ausbon, Jr. and his wife Sandra and Pam Ausbon Walker all of Washington; grandchildren: Thomas James Ausbon and his wife Kayla and Samantha Britton Weathersby all of Washington and Alexis Squires and her husband Braxton of Greenville; and a great grandchild: Hattie Brooke Ausbon of Washington. She was predeceased, along with her parents and husband by brothers: Robert Earl Hedgepeth, Sr. and Ronald Jesse Hedgepeth; and sisters: Edna H Mayo, Margie H. Wainwright, and an infant sister Ruby Bell Hedgepeth.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
