    Meredith Bowden Burbage, 88, of Belhaven passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at St. Clair's Church of Christ cemetery in Bath, NC. Minister James Scheffler will officiate.

    Masks will be required.

    Born on October 27, 1932, in Norfolk, VA, Meredith was the daughter of Chada and Laconia Bowden. She was a graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School and a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ. She worked at Wachovia (formerly Guaranty) Bank, Coastal Oil Company, and Tideland EMC before retiring in 1997. Meredith was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

    She is survived by her son, Jay Burbage (Lynn) of Wilson, NC; two granddaughters, Allison Burbage of Lynchburg, VA, and Rebecca Burbage of Wilson, NC; her sisters, Joan Bowden Sheppard and Edith Bowden Rice (Rudolph) of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, Debbie Rice Creef (Steve) of Hampton, VA, Gerri Sheppard Allison (Steve) of Rocky Mount, NC, and Jennifer Sheppard Hartman (Pern) of Portsmouth, VA; nephews, Rue Rice (Karen) of Chesapeake, VA, Jeff Sheppard of Virginia Beach, VA, and Dan Sheppard (Catherine) of Lincoln, CA. Meredith was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law, Roy Sheppard, Jr., and her husband, Charlie Jackson "Jack" Burbage, Sr.

    Pallbearers will be Steve Creef, Rue Rice, Jeff Sheppard, Dan Sheppard, and Pern Hartman. Steve Allison will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to West Belhaven Church of Christ, 1080 West Main Street, Belhaven, NC 27810.
