    Mrs. Susan Shirley Spencer Tolan, age 90, a resident of Belhaven, NC died Monday June 14, 2021 at Autumnfield of Belhaven with some family by her side.

    A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 19, 2021 at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor David Pierce. The family will informally great friends following the service at the church.

    Mrs. Tolan was born in Hyde County on December 12, 1930, daughter of the late Ralph Ray Spencer and the late Martha Louise Blake Spencer. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School. On January 26, 1952 she married the love of her life, William Frost "Frosty" Tolan, Sr., who preceded her in death on September 9, 2012. During her working career she enjoyed being a manager of the cafeteria at Key West High School in Florida. She was a member of Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Tolan loved working in her yard and spoiling her grandchildren.

    Survivors include her children: William F. Tolan "Frosty" Tolan, Jr. (Rebecca) of Wilmington, Ray S. Tolan (Theresa) of Chapel Hill, Gregory W. Tolan of Key West, FL, Susan Gail Tolan of Ashville, Robin T. Hearley (Michael) of Parker, CO, and Natalie T. Butler (Jamie) of Tampa, FL; a sister: Aleta Bowman of the state of Washington; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Belhaven Missionary Baptist church, P.O. Box 400, Belhaven, NC 27810.
