Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Berry Slade | Eastern NC Now

   Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Berry Slade, age 99, a resident of 326 E. 11th St., Washington, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at her home.

   Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Rev. Scott Setzer. Mrs. Slade’s grandsons and great grandson will serve as honorary pallbearers. She will lie in state at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday afternoon.

   Mrs. Slade was born in Hyde County to the late Charlie and Liddie May O’Neal Berry. On April 25, 1928, she married Cecil Earl Slade who preceded her in death on May 20, 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church of Washington.

   Survivors include two daughters, Shelby S. Mizelle and husband Jim of Washington, Mary S. Myatt and husband Kirby of Melbourne, Florida; four grandsons, Joel Mizelle and wife Lisa of Washington, Randall Mizelle of Florida, Michael Mizelle and wife Jennifer of Raleigh and Garyn Mizelle of Chocowinity; two granddaughters, Vicki Stickels and husband Don of Alabama and Kim Gobeli and husband Steve of Florida; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Slade is preceded in death by a son, Gary Earl Slade and five brothers, Warren Berry, Dallas Berry, John Berry, Bill Berry and Herman Berry.

   The family will receive friends following the graveside service and other times at the home of her daughter, Shelby S. Mizelle, 2502 W. 5th St., Washington, NC 27889.
