Mr. Raymond “BoPete” Brooks Elks, age 80, a resident of 303 Cowan St., Washington, died Saturday September 1, 2012 at his home.

   Mr. Raymond “BoPete” Brooks Elks, age 80, a resident of 303 Cowan St., Washington, died Saturday September 1, 2012 at his home.

   Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday September 4, 2012 at Peace Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. David Thompson and Rev. Edwin Hill. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

   Mr. Elks was born in Pitt County on September 5, 1931 to the late Henry and Carrie Moore Elks. On July 28, 1958 he married Dorothy Eakes who survives. He attended Maury School in Greene County and received his GED from Beaufort County Community College. He was employed with Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock in Virginia for one year, the American Oil Company for seven and a half years and with TGS/PCS in Aurora, NC where he retired with twenty-eight years of service. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Peace Chapel Free Will Baptist Church of Washington.

   Survivors include his wife of the home, Dorothy Eakes Elks, two sons, Steven Elks and wife Teresa of Washington and Mike Elks and wife Neva of Grimesland, grandchildren, Brooks Elks and wife Kelly, Samantha Elks Baldree, Jeffrey Elks, Nikki Barrow Weber and husband Byron and Curt Elks, great grandchildren, Kaylee, Ryleigh, Hunter, Trenton and Summer, one sister, Ann Baker and husband David of Kinston and two brothers, Gennis Elks of Stonington, Connecticut and Henry Elks and wife Nita of Pineville, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carlton Elks and one sister, Doris Young.

   The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday September 3, 2012 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
