Taliban declares victory over U.S. seizing citizens’ weapons | Eastern NC Now

"The Taliban have declared victory in the war against the United States and began collecting weapons from citizens as they consolidate their hold on the country.

Taliban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar appeared alongside other Taliban leaders in a Twitter video claiming victory:

“We have achieved an unexpected victory. Now is the time to test, to show how we serve our people and ensure their future in the best possible way.”

Baradar reportedly has been named the “leader of Afghanistan” as the United States struggles to complete an evacuation of American personnel from the country in what appeared more like a retreat than a planned drawdown.

Taliban fighters have begun combing the city of Kabul, collecting firearms from citizens claiming people no longer need them. One Taliban official told Reuters:

“We understand people kept weapons for personal safety. They can now feel safe. We are not here to harm innocent civilians.”

Once the Taliban collects all the weapons so the people cannot fight back they are free to do as they please to the people.  Promises will not be kept, they never are.
