Plastic tax is latest Democrat scheme to increase consumer taxes | Eastern NC Now

Democrats look to indirect taxes to try to fool voters

ENCNow

To fund their huge spending increases, Democrats are looking to indirect taxes to try to pull the wool over the eyes of voters, the latest proposal being a tax on items made of plastic.  The idea is to find taxes that are less visible to consumers by taxing items to producers which are then passed on to consumers in the costs of goods or services.

The Plastic Tax would be imposed on virgin plastic, raising its cost to businesses that manufacture items from plastic, which would then increase their prices to consumers. It would not only raise costs to American citizens for plastic items, and increase inflation, but it would also likely move American jobs overseas to countries that do not tax plastic.

A carbon tax, which gets passed on to consumers in the costs of products is a similar scheme to try to wide the tax from voters and push jobs overseas.  A former Labour government in Australia famously passed a carbon tax, only to see that become a major campaign issue in the next election, leading to the opposition conservative coalition winning the biggest landslide in recent years on the promise that their first act in government would be to repeal the carbon tax, which they did.

Another similar scheme is raising corporate income taxes, which would also just get passed on to consumers.
