Mrs. Shirley "Jo" Johnson | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Shirley "Jo" Johnson, age 72, a resident of the Bay Harbour Community, Chocowinity, NC, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. The family will receive friends Monday, September 17, 2012, from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at Calverton Baptist Church, 12625 Galway Dr., Silver Spring, MD. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD.

    Mrs. Johnson was born in Jefferson, NC on February 10, 1940, daughter of John Byron and Leo Nora Nanny Rosa Belle Joines Shepherd. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Larry Joe Johnson, her children, Jeffery Boyd Johnson and wife Karen of Gaithersburg, MD and Jeanette Kaye Johnson Lowicz and husband Chuck of Columbia, SC, her grandchildren, Sebastian Asher Lowicz and Bella Josephine Lowicz of Columbia, SC, her sister, Jennie Rosetta Shepherd Graybeal of Oxford, PA and her brother, Rufus Lee Roy Shepherd of Darlington, MD.

    Mrs. Johnson retired in 1993 after 35 years of service as an analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC and then joined the First Insurance Agency in Burtonsville, MD for eight years. She was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother who loved her flower garden and cared deeply for her friends and family. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Calverton Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD.

    In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Calverton Baptist Church Choir Fund, 12625 Galway Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20902.
