Mr. Arthur Henry Harrell | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Arthur Henry Harrell, age 102, a resident of 3409 Market Street Extension, Washington, NC, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home.

   A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Ray West. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

   Mr. Harrell was born in Beaufort County on August 16, 1910 to the late Jimmy Harrell and Eva McRoy Harrell. He graduated from Washington Collegiate Institute and furthered his education at State College (now North Carolina State University). Mr. Harrell served his country in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Harrell was married to the late Mary Louise Boyd Harrell, who preceded him in death on May 21, 2003. Mr. Harrell was a member of the First Church of Christ of Washington, Orr Lodge # 104 A.F. & A.M., Washington Lion’s Club, and Tau Tribe # 18 Improved Order of Red Men.

   Mr. Harrell is survived by two daughters; Sandra Harrell Dixon and husband Durwood and Gwen Harrell Jordan and husband Ken all of Washington, NC, a brother; Frank Harrell of Lottsburg, VA, three sisters; Geneva Whichard and husband Warren and Mildred H. Elks all of Chocowinity, NC and Sallie H. Tadlock of Elizabeth City, NC, and two grandchildren; Allen Dixon of Washington, NC and LeAnne Jones-Braly of Greenville, NC. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Harrell is preceded in death by two brothers; Matthew Harrell and Thomas Harrell, and three sisters; Kathleen H. Haddock, Alta H. Mills and Mattie Lee H. Sears.
