Shirley Lee Padgett Asby | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Shirley Lee Padgett Asby, age 84, a resident of Chocowinity, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

    Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 26, 2021 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, conducted by Rev. Glen Batten.

    Mrs. Asby was born in Beaufort County on April 8, 1937. She was the daughter of Allen F. Padgett and Etta Lee Waters Padgett. Mrs. Asby worked in child day care for many years. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Asby served as Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, and helped organize church plays. Later, she attended Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In her spare time, Mrs. Asby enjoyed cooking, housekeeping, church activities, and McDonald's coffee.

    Mrs. Asby was married to Edward Stanley Asby, who preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Asby is survived by her children, Stan Asby and wife, Diane of Greenville, Janet Elks and husband, Darrell of Chocowinity; five grandchildren, Quentin Asby, Stacy Bullock, Vann Elks, Tim Elks, Crystal Libby; 13 great grandchildren, Alan Asby, Bryce Asby, Davis Peters, Hunter Bullock, Matthew Bullock, Luke Bullock, Eden Elks, Easton Elks, London Elks, Gatlin Elks, Polevia Libby, Warrior Libby, Niko Libby; and two sisters, Lois Wilburn of Florida, Ruby Cutler of Bath.

    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Asby was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura Peters; two sisters, Dorothy Whichard, Hazel Woolard; and four brothers, Johnnie Padgett, Charlie Padgett, Allen Padgett, and Louis Padgett.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
