Stacey Abrams: I’m Running For Governor. Crenshaw Fires, ‘I Thought You Said You Were Already The Governor’ | Eastern North Carolina Now

    On Wednesday, Democrat Stacey Abrams, who has insisted for years that she actually won the 2018 gubernatorial race against the GOP's Brian Kemp, officially announced her candidacy in the 2022 Georgia gubernatorial race, stating in a campaign video she is running because "opportunity in our state shouldn't be determined by zip code, background or access to power."

    Rep. Dan Crenshaw fired back on Twitter, "Wait I thought you said you were already the Governor."

    As The Daily Wire reported in 2019, Abrams told MSNBC, "I think the election was stolen from the people of Georgia. ... I don't know that empirically, I would have won. But if you add together the thousands of people who faced extraordinary long lines, who faced hurdles that should not happen in a democracy, the votes that we know were not counted, the secretary of state who was also my opponent in the race purged more than 1.4 million voters over basically an eight-year period."

    In late December 2020, appearing on CNN's "New Day," Abrams stated, "Republicans do not know how to win without voter suppression as one of their tools."

    CNN anchor Jim Sciutto prompted Abrams' remark by saying, "I want to ask you a big picture question here because, you know, the president still denies the outcome of this election and Republicans around the country drawing on that to already begin writing up voting restrictions, right, to bring back some of the voter expansion measures we saw in this cycle, including mail-in ballots, et cetera. Do you see that effort ticking up again after this cycle in state legislatures around the country where, frankly, Republicans have an enormous advantage? And, if so, what are you going to do about it?"

    "We're going to do what we've been doing, which is we are going to work to mitigate voter suppression," Abrams claimed. "You are absolutely right that when voter suppression was put on its heels in the 2020 election, through the work of Fair Fight 2020 and other organizations around the country, we saw voters turn out in record numbers and in record composition in Michigan, in Wisconsin, in Pennsylvania, in Arizona, here in Georgia."

    The Daily Wire reported in October that while she was campaigning for Democrat Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, who wound up losing to the GOP's Glenn Youngkin, Abrams complained, "Just because you win doesn't mean you won. We've got folks who are ready to take back what they think is theirs, but they are not entitled to our progress. They are not entitled to our justice. They are not entitled to our vote. ... I come from a state where I was not entitled to become the governor, but as an American citizen and a citizen of Georgia, I'm going to fight for every person who has the right to vote to be able to cast that vote."
