Mr. John Marshall Cox III, age 58, a resident of Pinetown, NC died Monday December 13, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville following a courageous battle with cancer.

    Mr. John Marshall Cox III, age 58, a resident of Pinetown, NC died Monday December 13, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville following a courageous battle with cancer.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 18, 2021 at Yeatesville Cemetery in Pinetown. The service will be officiated by Rev. Walter Taylor. The family will receive friend following the service at the cemetery.

    John was born in Beaufort County on December 22, 1962, son of the late John M. Cox, Jr. and Martha Elizabeth Gaylord Thompson who survives. He was a 1981 graduate of Pungo Christian Academy in Belhaven. Following high school, he attended apprentice school at Newport News Shipyard. After his training at the shipyard, he worked for them and later worked with Martin Marietta. While working with Martin Marietta he received recognition from NASA for his work in Astro Photography. John was a natural artist who loved music, played the drums, and also loved animals.

    Surviving along with his mother: Martha G. Thompson, and her husband William "Bill" of Grimesland are his children: Maria Cox and Joshua Cox both of Raleigh; a brother: Don Cox of Belhaven; a granddaughter: Skylee Cox of Raleigh a niece: Brianna Cox of Belhaven; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to Relay for Life of Beaufort County, Attn: Memorials, P.O. Box 2708, Washington, NC 27889.
