Key cabinet resignation stuns Johnson's UK government | Eastern NC Now

Lord David Frost blasts tax, Covid, and green energy policies

ENCNow

Lord David Frost has been a key ally of Prime Minister Boris Johnson for years, and has been serving in Johnson's cabinet in the key position of Minister for Brexit.  Thus it created a shock wave when Lord Frost handed in his resignation from the cabinet, which he did a week ago but it has just been announced publicly. Frost has declared that he is disillusioned with Johnson's policies, in particular his tax increases, his "net zero" push for green energy, and his restrictive Covid policies.

This comes close on the heels of a huge Conservative Party loss in a special election for a seat in the House of Commons in the previously Conservative safe seat of North Shropshire, which had been held by a Conservative in all but 2 of the last 170 years, in one of the biggest special election swings in British history.  It also follows a recent backbench rebellion in the House of Commons when over 100 Conservative members of Parliament voted against Johnson's restrictive Covid legislation.

All of this points to the growing possibility of Johnson facing a vote for removal from the Prime Ministership by the Conservative Party caucus in the House of Commons.  Letters demanding such a vote are already going into the chairman of the 1922 Committee, which would formally convene such a vote.
