    Mrs. Melba Grace Taylor Sayers, age 81, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday December 22, 2021 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, officiated by Pastor Randy Warren. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Lonnie Taylor, William Gountikas, Zack Woolard, John Lamb, Mike Gill, and Doug Steppe will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday December 27, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.

    Mrs. Sayers was born in Beaufort County on May 26, 1940, daughter of the late William Jasper Taylor and the late Ann Maria Ingalls Taylor. She was a graduate of Bear Grass High School class of 1958. On November 10, 1991 she married Donald Leon Sayers who survives. Mrs. Sayers was very patriotic and was a past Commander of DAV Auxiliary Unit 62 as well as a past Commander for the State of North Carolina. She dearly loved her church family at River of Grace Fellowship in the Greenville area.

    Surviving along with her husband: Donald of the home are her children: Grace Cox of Washington, William Gountikas of Plymouth and Sandra Woolard of Washington; sisters: Faye Appoloney (Pete Appoloney) of Greenville, and Jackie Ayers (Donald Ayers) of Williamston; brother: Lonnie Taylor of Chocowinity; and five grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Cox, Abigail Gountikas Potter (Anderson Potter), Dakota Rain Woolard, Hunter Zachary Woolard and Stori Elizabeth Woolard. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sayers was predeceased by a sister: Mae Everett; two brothers: Pete Taylor and Delmus Taylor, one daughter In-Law Michelle Gountikas, one son in-law Ken Woolard and two sister in-laws Jean Taylor and Linda Taylor.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to River of Grace Fellowship, 6495 U.S. Hwy 264 East, Greenville, NC 27834.
