Willie Esther “Bill” Douglas | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Willie Esther (better known as "Bill") Douglas, age 101, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at Old Ford Church of Christ Sanctuary, 6040 U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM Friday in the sanctuary of the Church. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Billy Moore , Billy Moore, Jr., George "Butch" Baker, Phillip Matkins, Freddie Matkins, and Curtis Rogers.

    Mrs. Douglas was born in Beaufort County on March 5, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Augustus Moore and Cora Swanner Moore. Mrs. Douglas was a retired front desk clerk for the Beaufort County A.S.C.S. for many years. She was the oldest living member of the Old Ford Church of Christ. Mrs. Douglas was a member of the Ladies Sunday School class and Circle #3. She enjoyed helping the Old Ford Ruritan Club and the Old Ford Fire Department with their fund raising dinners.

    Mrs. Douglas was married to Grady Phillip Douglas, Jr., who preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Douglas is survived by her daughter in law, Glenda Douglas of Sanford; three grandchildren, Bryan Douglas and wife Sheri of Garner, Ellen Douglas Wofford and husband, Johnny of Sanford, Michael Douglas and wife Mitzy of Broadway, N.C.; two great grandchildren, Darah and Grant Douglas and several nieces and nephews, including Billy Moore and his wife, Moriah.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Douglas was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Augustus Douglas.

    The family will receive friends at other times at the home.
