Austrailia's tough policies largely ended boat migration
When Australia faced a deluge of illegal alien migrants arriving by boat, it got tough. Under Prime Minister Tony Abbott, they implemented Operation Sovereign Borders, with an army general in charge and use of military and border force assets to intercept migrant smuggling boats at sea and forcibly turn them around back to where they came from. Those migrants who managed to get through were not allowed to stay in Australia for processing but were sent instead to camps in third countries.
Now the British government is looking to Australia's tough policies to stem the flow of illegal aliens arriving by boat in the UK. British Home Secretary Priti Patel has appointed former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, one of the men who crafted Operation Sovereign Borders, to advise the UK's Border Force on new policies to halt the wave of illegal alien migration into the UK.
