A French modeling agent accused of procuring underage girls to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his jail cell on Saturday, prompting the family of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's convicted madam, to fear for her safety.

Maxwell's brother told the New York Post that the family "fears for [Ghislaine's] safety" after modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel was found dead in his jail cell over the weekend. Brunel reportedly hanged himself, just as Epstein had done in August 2019 while also in prison.

"It's really shocking," Ian Maxwell, Ghislaine's brother, told the Post. "Another death by hanging in a high-security prison. My reaction is one of total shock and bewilderment."

Like Epstein and Brunel, Ghislaine is also being held in a high-security prison, the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, following her December 29 conviction on sexual abuse charges. The Daily Wire reported at the time that Ghislaine was found "guilty on five of six counts on Wednesday, including conspiracy to entice individuals under 17 to travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in 'illegal sexual activity,' conspiracy to transport individuals under 17 to travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in 'illegal sexual activity,' transportation of an individual under 17 with intent to engage in 'illegal sexual activity,' conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of individuals under 18, and sex trafficking of an individual under 18."

After her conviction, Ghislaine was placed in a room at the prison with a psychiatrist, a guard, and one other person, with cameras recording everything, Ian Maxwell told the Post.

"Despite the psychiatrist advising to the contrary, she was deemed a suicide risk and they are continuing to wake her up every 15 minutes in the night. It's a complete violation of prisoner rights and human rights," Ian told the outlet.

Ian told the Post his sister was not suicidal but said it was "ironic" that Epstein and Brunel died of apparent suicides while not on suicide watch. Epstein had been on a suicide watch but was removed just before he died.

Brunel, the modeling agent who died on Saturday, was accused by Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts in a lawsuit of procuring "more than a thousand women and girls for Epstein to sleep with," The Daily Mail reported. The outlet added that Brunel was "awaiting trial in France for raping minors."

"Prosecutors in Paris confirmed Brunel was found hanging in his cell in La Santé, in the south of the capital city, in the early hours of Saturday morning," The Mail added. "It is not known whether Brunel was sharing a cell or whether there was any CCTV footage inside."

Epstein was found dead in his jail cell on August 10, 2019, as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges.

"Initial autopsy reports that revealed Epstein broke several bones in his neck, including his hyoid, a U-shaped bone in the front and middle of the neck, led conspiracists to suspect foul play," Business Insider reported. "The bone can be broken during suicide by hanging, but is more commonly associated with strangulation, although medical experts and the coroner who oversaw Epstein's autopsy say he died by suicide."
