M. Henry Leggett, Jr., of 319 East Main Street, Williamston, NC passed away peacefully on October 21, 2012 at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington, NC.

   M. Henry Leggett, Jr., of 319 East Main Street, Williamston, NC passed away peacefully on October 21, 2012 at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington, NC. He was born on December 15, 1929 in the Farm Life Community to Marvin H. Leggett, Sr. and Irene Manning Leggett. He attended school at the Asa Manning Farm Life School and Kings Business College. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Leggett served as the Executive Director of the Williamston Housing Authority for many years. He was active in the First Christian Church where he served as an Elder and was a 50 year member of the Williamston Lions Club. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America earning the Silver Beaver Award.

   Henry Leggett will be remembered by many as a man of integrity, wit, and compassion. His life was about service to his God, his family, community, and fellowman.

   He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Strickland Leggett and his children, Kathy L. Thaman and husband Michael of Raeford, Ann L. Copeland and husband Tim of Greenville, and Mark Leggett and wife Joan of Jamesville. Grandchildren include Morgan W. Jones of Durham, Justyn N. Knox of Durham, Beth Copeland of Greenville, Courtney Leggett of Raleigh, Ben Leggett of Jamesville, and Alex Thaman of Raeford. He is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren. His surviving sister is Angelum L. Raunikar of Griffin, GA. He is also survived by “brother” Rev. John Browning and wife Janice of Nashville, NC and many nieces and nephews.

   Visitation at Biggs Funeral Home 6:30-8:30 Tuesday, October 23, 2012.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Smithwick and Liberty Streets, Williamston. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

    While flowers are accepted and appreciated, memorial contributions are welcomed to the North Carolina Lions Foundation or First Christian Church, Williamston, NC.
