A Florida man watched in horror as his girlfriend, allegedly drunk and drug-addled, entered his Florida condo, began throwing things out his seventh-floor window, then, according to the man, smiled as she seized his 3-year-old pug and hurled the dog out over the balcony to its death on the asphalt below.

Eric Adeson, 56, who works as a math and SAT tutor, lives in a condo at the Regatta Beach Club, in Clearwater Beach. On Sunday, his now-ex girlfriend Shelley Nicole Vaughn, 46, who also lived in the condo complex on the fifth floor, entered, smoking marijuana, he said, then got verbally aggressive with him, prompting him to ask her to leave. She started hitting him and throwing his cellphone and keys over the balcony, he claimed.

Then, according to Adeson, she seized his pug Bucky, smiled, and threw him over the balcony.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Adeson wept, saying, "I was screaming... I went down and Bucky was lying there in a pool of blood. I never thought anybody could do that. I never thought anybody would have that in them. ... It's like a blur. ... I'm devastated."

Adeson told the New York Post, "I was just screaming, I was horrified. I lost Bucky and I lost someone I cared about. There's just so much tragedy in this story."

He spoke to Fox 13 of his 13-year-old puggle, Sandy, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2019: "Never thinking in a million years that Sandy would survive the cancer and still be alive at 13 and actually outlive Bucky. That's the tragedy of it." He told the Post of Vaughn, "The combination of Xanax, marijuana and alcohol makes her snap. She just goes crazy."

Adeson said, "She picked up Bucky over there, and she just smiled and just threw them off the balcony. I went downstairs and I hugged him, but I mean, it was seven floors. I kept thinking maybe he'd get up."

Adeson's attorney, Katherine Neal, who filed a civil complaint against Vaughn asking for $30,000 in damages, stated, "Our client saw this happen, and is absolutely traumatized. Several residents of the building witnessed the event as well, and the entire community is extremely upset over what happened."

Adeson said, "I would encourage people to love their pets and appreciate their pets and hug their pets tonight because you don't know that they'll be there tomorrow." He concluded, "There is no justice. I mean, nothing's going to bring Bucky back."

"Vaughn was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, criminal mischief and domestic battery. She faces a maximum of up to two years in prison for the latter two charges with fines of $1,000 each, and a maximum fine of $5,000 for the animal cruelty count," the Daily Mail reported.
