Frances Harvey Tankard | Eastern NC Now

    Ms. Frances Harvey Tankard, age 80, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at her home.

    A graveside memorial service will be held later at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

    Ms. Frances was born in Beaufort County on February 3, 1942, daughter of the late Eugene Harvey Tankard and the late Josephine Whitmel Nicholson Tankard. She was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School and continued her education at the former East Carolina College where she earned her bachelor's degree. Her working career consisted of being an elementary teacher for Carteret County and Beaufort County Schools. As well as being a teacher she also worked as a librarian. Ms. Frances loved gardening and watching her plants grow, going out to eat, and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Washington.

    Survivors are her sister: Josephine Lamberto of Raleigh; nieces: Jody Springer (Jarimy) of Carolina Beach, and Frances "Liza" Merrell (Clarke) of Morehead City; and great nieces and nephews: Roman, Griffin, Josie, Noah, and Marna. She was predeceased by a brother: Larry Horne.
