On Wednesday, after New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office released a report confirming that the state had severely undercounted the number of nursing home deaths in the early months of the 2020 COVID pandemic, New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul stated, "I want to continue working with the comptroller and find out every aspect of the pandemic - what was done right, what was done wrong, should we be in that same situation again."

Fox News Meteorologist Janice Dean, who led the charge since mid-2020 against former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo over his responsibility for the deaths, fired on Twitter, "I don't believe her."

Dean also tweeted, "It's been almost two years. The media is finally catching on to @andrewcuomo's atrocities in nursing homes and the coverup. Grateful to @TomDiNapoli for being on the side of the angels and reporting the truth in his state audit. @GovKathyHochul you need to stop being complicit."

"The findings of an audit conducted by Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office - determining New York state health officials under the Cuomo administration undercounted deaths by as much as 4,100 people - largely corroborated Attorney General Letitia James's own probe, as well as documents released under open records requests," Spectrum News 1 reported.

Republican state Sen. Sue Serino reacted, "The state was drastically undercounting these deaths in an effort to deceive New Yorkers, which is what they did, and the question still remains why."

Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi dismissed the importance of the report and argued it was not newsworthy, saying, "As the number of out-of-facility deaths were reported last January, this is not news, however what is peculiar is the Comptroller's release of this audit now - but no one has ever accused him of being above politics."

But Assemblyman Ron Kim, who lost a family member to COVID, countered, "This is the third independent report to verify his misconduct. ... His actions were never about protecting our most vulnerable, they were about pure egotism and self-enrichment at the cost of others' lives."

Kim had something else to say, adding, "We just want to go back and have an accurate read of the death toll numbers. Our families still don't know if our loved ones and their deaths were actually counted."

In October 2020, appearing on NBC's "Today" show, Andrew Cuomo discussed his new book, "American Crisis," that spoke of his "hard-won lessons in leadership and his vision for the path forward." During the interview, Cuomo likened the COVID pandemic of 2020 to a sporting event, claiming, "The game isn't over."

Cuomo's comments enraged Dean, whose husband tragically lost both his parents to COVID-19; they were residents of assisted living facilities or nursing homes in New York. Dean fired on Twitter: "Profiting on the deaths of over 30,000 New Yorkers. ... Also, the governor refers to the pandemic and the deaths of our loved ones (as) 'a game.'"
