    Mrs. Ethel Mae Jones, age 70, a resident of 1625 Mill Hole Road, Washington, NC, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, November 2, 2012.

    A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Alligood Church of God, officiated by Pastor Phillip Jethro. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Saturday, November 3, at Alligood Church of God and other times at the home of her daughter, Angela Best, located at 194 Pungo Creek Road, Pinetown, NC, or her son Bernie Jones at 1670

    Mill Hole Road, Washington, NC. Pallbearers will be Carl Wayne Woolard, Alfred Price, Jr., William H. Woolard, Justin R. Woolard, Jerry L. Woolard, Horace "Chubby" Woolard and Sterling Woolard. Honorary Pallbearers are Steven Keith Woolard, Derick W. Woolard, Ellis Ray Cullipher and Jonathan Cullipher.

    Ethel was born in Beaufort County on February 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Harley Plum Woolard and Mildred W. Woolard. She graduated from Bath High School in 1960. On June 16, 1960, Ethel married Bernis Merlon Jones, Sr., who survives. She worked with Samsons Shirt Factory and later with National Spinning Company. Her greatest love was the many years she spent caring for children in her home. Ethel was a member of Alligood Church of God where she was a clerk, teacher and piano player for many years.

    She is survived by her husband, Bernis Merlon Jones, Sr. of the home, a son Bernie Jones and girlfriend Susan Woolard of Washington, NC; a daughter, Angela Best and husband Patrick of Pinetown, NC; five sisters, Shirley Price and special friend Frank Narron, Joyce Ann Woolard, Barbara J. Woolard, Glenda Howerin and husband James, Linda Woolard and husband Billy, all of Washington, NC and five grandchildren, Hayley, Seth and Nick Jones and Matthew and Sophie Kate Best.

    Flowers will be appreciated or those wishing to make memorials may make them to the Ethel Jones Memorial Cancer Fund, c/o Alligood Church of God, 1891 Mill Hole Road, Washington, NC 27889.

    Pamlico Funeral and Cremation Service of Washington is serving the Jones family.
