Reversal of Roe (a Public Post)
Senators, Congress Members, Governors and those running for political office:
I write to you as a registered republican. I have been an active part of the party for over 25 years. I vote, I participate, and I care about this country. For as long as I can remember I have been a patriot. This is the first time I can truly say that I am ashamed of being an American. How sad is that.
The recent party platform is so far to the extreme that it is obvious the party has left me and therefore I will be changing my party affiliation (and my vote) from this point forward. Not that you would care.
When did it become easier to enforce more regulations and laws on a woman's uterus than there are regulations to purchase guns?
If your party platform is so intent on taking away a women's right to chose what she does with her body, then for every legal action there should be an equal and opposite legal reaction.
The constitution of the United States is based on a system of checks and balances. If a woman is denied access to a legal choice to terminate an unwanted pregnancy (for any reason), then regulations and laws should be immediately enforced upon the "right to life" people and supporters (yourself included) to offset the choice you have denied women.
If a woman is forced to carry an unwanted child to term then the government should demand and regulate with laws that at the very least, that woman should be provided with fair and equitable pre-natal care, financial and mental health support during the term of the pregnancy, provided with reimbursement for the cost of medical care to deliver the child and finally a qualified adult to adopt the child upon delivery. That adopted child should be required by law to have an education, medical care, love and support all at the cost of one of your precious "right to life" people who are denying the birth mother the right to terminate an unwanted child.
The responsibility should not fall upon the states and the taxpayers of this Country. The child should not have to suffer the indignity of foster care, poverty, abuse, food insecurity and lack of an education.
What is most appalling is that those who will suffer the most are the underrepresented, people of color, and the poor. Those with financial means will always have the ability to travel to a state that still honors our constitution and provide care for these people to make the very personal and difficult choice to decide what is best for their lives.
This is on you and your party platform. You should be ashamed of yourselves for shoving our Country and the right to privacy and personal freedom back over 50 years. Subsequently, it is your responsibility to accept the subsequent fall out. What has happened to this Country is tragic. It is no longer a Country of free speech or the right to personal choices. This Country is more divided since it has been since the Vietnam War. This falls on you and your political party. Your party has gone against not only 50% of the entire population but the will of the people. What is next?
My greatest hope is that your party gets removed from any ability to hold any power (or control) in the government.
I pray for a pushback, and a revolt, from all citizens in this Country who believe in our constitution and rights as human beings. If not, we are no better than Russia. How sad is that? Remember that women are more than 50% of the population. It will be incumbent upon them to register and vote to protect their rights. I honestly don't understand how you sleep at night and claim to care about "your people and constituents". You only care about the big money donors and how you can obtain more power. It's disgusting.
No longer respectfully,
Tina Seewack
