    Mr. Raymond Evans Philbeck, age 45, a resident of 4113 Mary's Chapel Church Road, Aurora, N.C., died Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Mary's Chapel Christian Church, Aurora, N.C., conducted by Dr. Robert Cayton. Burial will follow in the Cayton Family Cemetery, Tunstall Swamp Road, Aurora, N.C.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Danny Carrow, Kenny Asby, Clarence Toler, Sid Cayton, Michael Peed and Mike Newman.

    Mr. Philbeck was born in Shelby, N.C., on June 19, 1967. He was the son of the late Benjamin Alonso Philbeck and Carrie Hoyle Philbeck. Mr. Philbeck was a 1990 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a biologist for the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (N.C.A.S.I.). Mr. Philbeck was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C., and the Walker Road Hunting Club, serving as Secretary-Treasurer. In his spare time, he loved to play the guitar and fish. His children were always his biggest loves and were the center of his universe.

    Mr. Philbeck is survived by Joyce Cayton Philbeck; his son, Evan Raymond Philbeck of Aurora, N.C.; his daughter, Tiffany Case Philbeck of Aurora, N.C.; devoted friend for 10 years, Elizabeth Dixon of Aurora, N.C.; his sister, Robin Philbeck Tillotson and her husband, Phillip of Atlanta, Ga.; niece, Paige Betts; nephew, John Tillotson; uncle, Bobby Winn and his wife, Agnes; aunts, Patsy Guffey, Becky Williams, Martha Jones and Hazel Putnam, all of Shelby, N.C.; a dear family friend, Jack Ware of Shelby, N.C.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Darrell B. Cayton and Peggy Cayton of Aurora, N.C.; brother-in-law and wife, the Honorable Darrell B. Cayton, Jr. and Paula Cayton and their son, Douglas of Washington, N.C. and numerous cousins.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, N.C., and other times at the home of Joyce Philbeck, 2160 Tunstall Swamp Road, Aurora, N.C.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.
