Ukrainian counterattacks near Kharkiv drive Russians back to own border | Eastern North Carolina Now

Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city and near the Russian border has been under siege since the first days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.  It was once called the "most Russia-friendly city in Ukraine" but given the destruction from the Russian siege that is no longer very likely.  Kharkiv has remained a major Russian target in the second phase of the war.

Now major Ukrainian counterattacks around Kharkiv have recaptured significant territory and driven the Russians out of artillery range of the city.  In some sectors, the Russians have been driven back to their own border.  The Ukrainian advance now puts them in artillery range of the major road and railroad funneling supplies to the Russian forces fighting in the Donbas, giving them the opportunity to choke off Russian supplies.

On the Donbas front, a Ukrainian artillery ambush thwarted an attempt by Russian forces to cross the Donets River, destroying 58 tanks and armored personnel carriers and inflicting heavy casualties.
