Russia has 2 senior generals killed in one day; Ukraine counterattacks in Donbas | Eastern North Carolina Now

An independent news agency with reporters embedded on both sides of the conflict has reported two senior Russian generals killed in an ambush by a Ukrainian reconnaissance unit while crossing a bridge..  Russia very quickly announced the loss of the more junior general, and the speed with which they did so was interpreted as to cover up the loss of the more senior general.  Russia officially announced the death of Major General Roman Kutuzov.

The senior general killed was the overall commander of Russia's Donbass campaign, who had been transferred a month ago from his command of Russian operations in Syria, where he had been regarded as a particularly brutal but successful commander.  Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov was reported to have been in one of the Russian vehicles that was hit but escaped the ambush but  died of his wounds.  Major General Kutuzov, on the other hand was in one of the vehicles trapped and destroyed on the bridge.

This will make a total of twelve Russian generals killed in Russia's invasion of Ukraine.  Russia has also lost at least 49 colonels.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian counterattack recaptured most of a key city in the Donbas that has been intensely fought over.  President Zelensky went to the front to congratulate his soldiers  Ukrainian counterattacks also continue in the Kharkiv sector, where Ukrainian forces have pushed the Russians out of artillery range of the city and in some parts of the line, all the way back to the Russian border, as well as advancing to within artillery range of Russia's main supply line to the Donbas.
