Public trust in the FBI was on a downward spiral well before the banana republic raid on President Trump. Repeated instances of a major partisan bias has eroded the public image of the agency. A poll last year by Gallup found that overall trust in the FBI had declined by seven points to 41%. Among Republicans, it had declined by 20 points to 26% and it had declined 13 points among independents.
