Kamala Has Lost Her Gourd: Veep Claims Border Is Secure, Yet Blames Trump For Crisis | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Vice President Kamala Harris's definition of "secure" is pretty weird. On Sunday, Harris told NBC's Chuck Todd that the border is "secure in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration."

    Under the Biden administration's watch, millions from all over the globe have entered the United States illegally. At record highs, anybody with even an ounce of shame or common sense would recognize that the border is wide open.

    Shame and common sense are in short supply in the Biden administration, though, and Harris's latest interview indicates that they have zero serious ideas - or desires - to fix the border. The vice president denied that the border was a gigantic sieve even after Todd pointed out that border patrol could experience two million encounters per month this fall.

    Still, for a crisis that Harris insists does not exist, all the fault in the world for it should be placed on former President Donald J. Trump, she declared.

    "But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years," she added in her conversation with Todd.

    One of those solutions is granting amnesty, Harris opined.

    "We also have to put into place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship," she added. "By the way, you want to talk about bipartisanship on an issue that at one time was a bipartisan issue both in terms of Republican senators and even presidents."

    According to Harris, granting citizenship would help solve the problem of illegal immigration for reasons unexplained. That flies in the face of logic.

    The data show that the last time America enacted massive amnesty in 1986, the bipartisan effort from Congress and President Ronald Reagan did nothing to stem the flow of illegal immigration in the long run. It obviously did not stop the problem, otherwise, Trump would not have launched his 2016 campaign on stopping illegal immigration.

    There is also the theory that such promises can encourage more border crossings as individuals hurry in before the border is closed off so that they can remain eligible for citizenship.

    She also ignores previous lessons from the Obama administration's SNAFU at the border. With her latest interview, Harris sent mixed messages to migrants - something that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reported in 2015 leads to increased influxes of migration.

    In 2021, Harris told those considering making their trip to the American border, "Do not come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws.

    "I believe if you come to our border you will be turned back," she added.

    That is not what has happened with the Biden-Harris administration at the helm since she made those remarks.

    Millions of illegal aliens have been allowed into the country.

    Now, she is posing that those migrants should be granted citizenship. In other words, there are no consequences for those who made it into the U.S. interior under Biden.

    That unlawfulness is in large part to Biden's decision to undo many of the migration protocols that Trump enacted, such as ending Remain in Mexico. As a result such efforts, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz recently testified under oath that Biden's new policies are to blame for the increase in illegal immigration.

    Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is suing the Department of Homeland Security and the Biden administration over what she contends are immigration policies that flout federal law.

    During a July deposition, Ortiz stated that he believes illegal immigrants increasingly come to the U.S. when there are "no consequences."

    "So, if migrant populations believe that they're going ... there are not going to be consequences, more of them will come to the border. Is that what you're saying?" questioned the attorney.

    "There is an assumption that if migrant populations are told that there is a potential that they may be released, that, yes, you can see increases," he responded.

    The attorney then asked, "So, it will increase at an exponential rate. Is that what is being suggested here?"

    "Well, I do think it will increase, yeah," he answered.

    Whether or not that is true does not matter to the executive branch. Harris is not concerned that illegal immigration will increase. If she was, she would not be saying that the border is secure.

    She is more concerned with ushering in new citizens and blaming Biden's predecessor for a problem she says is not real.
