Sheriff candidates widely different backgrounds | Eastern North Carolina Now

The law enforcement backgrounds of the two candidates for Sheriff could not be more different.

Republican Scott Hammonds has served many years and is honorably retired from both the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Military Police of the NC National Guard.  On his retirement from the Highway Patrol, he was given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his solid service.

Democrat Corey Rogerson, on the other hand, has been fired by both the Washington Police Department and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department.  He now works for a private hospital security unit.

Hammonds has command experience as a sergeant in both the patrol and the National Guard MPs.  In the Patrol, Hammonds was a First Sergeant in charge of the patrol in two counties.

Rogerson has no command experience.

The choice is clear.
