Mrs. Erna Rowe Nichols | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Erna Rowe Nichols, age 85, a resident of 1307 Mill Road, Washington, NC, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Steve Hill and Mark Lilley. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Mill Road. Steve Griffin, Ronald Pilgreen, Glen Moore, William Cherry, Jimmy Perry and Bob Shagnea will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Nichols was born in Craven County on January 4, 1927, to the late Pete Rowe and Ruby Rowe. On December 17, 1949, Mrs. Nichols married Leroy Nichols, who survives. She was a math and science teacher for over 30 years, having taught in the Williamston and Chocowinity area. Mrs. Nichols loved reading and sewing.

    In addition to her husband, Leroy Nichols of the home, Mrs. Nichols is survived by two sons, William Leroy Nichols and wife Susan McCoury of Washington, NC, and Michael Rowe Nichols and wife Susan of Washington, NC; four grandchildren, Melissa Nichols, Hunter Nichols, Logan Nichols and Damon McCoury, and two great-grandchildren, Hailey Harris and Sarah Harris.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols is preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Joy Nichols and a brother, Buddy Rowe.

    The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2013, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
