Caving to Demands for Diversity, SNL Hires Funny Cast Member | Eastern NC Now

    NEW YORK CITY, NY     In an effort to diversify its cast, Saturday Night Live has announced the hiring of a funny cast member. Dallas-based actor and comedian Josh Davis will be joining the cast for the upcoming season.

    "We are happy to welcome a single funny cast member," said SNL creator Lorne Michaels. "We believe Davis has the chops to take us from zero jokes per episode to one, or perhaps even two, when the time comes."

    SNL mega fan Chip Atkinson was excited about the news. "I've recorded every single SNL episode on VHS, and lately I'd begun to forget what a joke even was," said Atkinson. "I think it's something someone says to cause amusement or laughter? I'm not sure. But I'm excited to find out again."

    Hosts of other late-night shows were upset at the news. Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Trevor Noah issued a joint statement calling for the immediate firing of the funny cast member. The statement read, in part, "late-night comedy is not about jokes. It is about promoting Democrat talking points and showing your viewers in LA and New York just how much you agree with their progressive point of view. Davis must be fired at once. Ideally, he will be replaced with an LGBTQIA+, unfunny BIPOC actor."

    Davis could not be reached for comment.
