The Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer the following classes in January: | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    · Outboard Motor Repair: Get your outboard motor in good working order for the spring fishing season in this class offered 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 7 and ending May 13 in Room 102 of Building 8A on the BCCC campus. The class will not meet Jan. 21 or April 1. The registration fee is $190 and includes student insurance mat a cost of $1.25. The instructor is Jesse Elks. Elks will provide hands-on guidance as students work on their outboard motors. Stands for motors and some tools will be provided.

    · Two "Introduction to Computers" classes: A day class, designed for the area's older residents, will be offered 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan 8 and ending Feb. 28 in Room 822 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. Instructor Beth Buck will cover topics including basic computer terminology, use of a keyboard and a computer mouse and tips on computer usage including basic Internet searches and emails. The registration fee is $120. A technology fee is $5. A night beginning computer class will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 22 and ending March 12 in Room 822 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The $70 cost of the course includes a registration fee of $65 and a technology fee of $5. In this class, also designed for the area's older residents, Instructor Anthony Moore will teach students to use a keyboard and a computer mouse and other tips on computer usage including basic Internet searches and emails. The registration fee may be waived for those over 65 years old for one class per academic semester. The technology fee is charged to all students.

    · Introduction to Computers, Part 2: In this class, instructor Christy Ange will help students learn to create documents, use advanced printing techniques and take advantage of more computer control panel features. It will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 10 and ending Feb. 28 in Room 822 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The $70 cost of the course includes a registration fee of $65 and a technology fee of $5. The registration fee may be waived for those over 65 years old for one class per academic semester. The technology fee is charged to all students.

    · Substitute Teaching Class: A class to prepare participants to be substitute teachers in the local public school system will be 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 7 to 10 in Room 829 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The instructor is Jane Rouse. The registration fee is $65. The required textbook can be purchased from the BCCC Bookstore prior to the first class at a cost of $33.50. No books will be sold in class. This course offers 2.4 continuing education units.

    · Sewing for Fun offered by BCCC: The class will meet 9 a.m. to noon, Thursdays beginning Jan. 10 and ending Feb. 14 in Room 830 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. It is designed for intermediate to advanced students. Participants will complete projects of their choice according to their sewing skills and interests. Students will learn about fabrics, patterns and machines as well as hand-sewing skills. Sewing machines are available for student use; however, students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machines. The instructor is Linda Batchelor. The registration fee is $39.

    · Beginning Cake Decorating Class: This class will be offered 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 15 and ending Feb. 19 in Room 830 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The instructor is Misty Cutler. In this class, instructor Misty Cutler will teach students to create borders and flowers among other cake-decorating skills. A supply list will be given to students on the first night of class The registration fee is $35. Class size is limited so early registration is advised.

    · Introduction to Digital Photography: Ever want to edit a photo that you have taken with your digital camera? Then this class is for you! It will be 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 28 and ending March 18 in Room 822 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. In this class students will use PhotoShop Elements 8 to edit and enhance their digital photographs. Students should bring their digital cameras or a flash drive with photos to use in the class. Class size is limited to 15, so pre-registration is recommended. The cost of the course is $70 and includes a registration fee of $65 and a technology fee of $5. The registration fee may be waived for those over 65 years old for one class per academic semester. The technology fee is charged to all students.

    · Beginning Conversation Spanish: A class to prepare students to speak with their Spanish-speaking friends and co-workers will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 29 and ending March 19 in Room 826 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $65. The instructor is Natalie Castro. The course offers 2.4 continuing education units. Students should bring a small three-ring binder to class. At the end of the class, students should be able to greet people, talk about themselves and understand basic Spanish.
