Mrs. Grace Mary Theresa Placente, age 79, a resident of Cypress Landing in Chocowinity, NC died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at her home.

    Mrs. Grace Mary Theresa Placente, age 79, a resident of Cypress Landing in Chocowinity, NC died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at her home.

    A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Father Mike Schuetz. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

    Mrs. Placente was born in Kings County, NY on March 3, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph Charles Puglisi and the late Laura Agnes Giorgianni Puglisi. She was a graduate of Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, NY.

    On August 29, 1964, she married Richard Placente who preceded her in death on August 5, 2020. She was an active learner and earned double Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Psychology from SUNY-Stony Brook and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Long Island University - C.W. Post Campus. Mrs. Placente was an avid reader who was open minded and kindhearted. One of her most enjoyable activities was traveling the world with her husband. Locally she served on the board of the Turnage Theater. She loved singing with local choral groups, hosting a weekly bridge group in her home and playing bridge at the Bay Club. Her faith was also extremely important to her and was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington. Mrs. Placente was a philanthropist who routinely made gifts to a variety of causes ranging from scientific research to education, as well as supporting her surrounding community.

    Survivors include a daughter: Carolyn Placente and her husband Josh Jenkins; grandchildren: Cherise Angeline Jenkins and Dylan Evans Jenkins all of Inverness, CA; niece: Katherine D'Mello and husband, Ivan and their daughter, Isabella Hope D'Mello all of Queens, NY; nephew: Michael Puglisi, Jr. and wife Iris and their children, Alex Rebecca Puglisi, Matthew Abraham Puglisi and Michael Anthony Puglisi all of Long Island, N.Y.; and a cousin: Andrew Recupero and his wife Marilyn of San Jose, CA. She was predeceased, along with her husband and parents, by a brother and sister-in-law: Michael and Carmenza Puglisi.
