Mrs. Gloria Ruth Dixon | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Gloria Ruth Dixon, age 58, a resident of Edwards Road, Chocowinity, NC, died on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Vidant Medical Center.

    A graveside celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 11, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Dixon Family Cemetery, Chocowinity, NC, officiated by Buzz Cayton. Danny Moody, Zachary Moody, Allen Dixon, Austin Dixon, Dustin Dixon and Joe Stringer will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday, January 11, 2013, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and travel in procession to the cemetery.

    Gloria was born in Macon, GA, on March 10, 1954, daughter of the late Henry and Grace Spires.

    She married Buddy Dixon on August 3, 1997, and made her home in Chocowinity. Gloria was a woman of many and varied talents. She was a loving and generous person and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

    In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Holly Summerlin; her step-daughters, Cindy Stringer and Amy Dixon; her brothers, Robert Thomas Slagle, Jr., Wendell Mark Spires, Gerald Spires, Dalmadge Spires and Allen Glen Spires; her sisters, Cherrell Ann Ulickey and Catherine S. Kimmer; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Kit Spires, Jr. and Norman Wade Spires.
