Commissioner Stan Deatherage Discusses Public Safety Here in Beaufort County | Eastern North Carolina Now

Commissioner Stan Deatherage

The Strong Voice for the Taxpayer

Dear Fellow Republican,

Crime is becoming a much bigger concern to our citizens. Under Democrat polices, crime is on the rise in America. While Beaufort County is not yet seeing the horrors in the big cities, we must get to work now to prevent that happening here.

Illegal immigration is increasing the crime problem. The extremely violent Salvadoran crime gang MS-13 has been using the "unaccompanied minor" ruse to get their thugs into America since Biden took office. Now Biden's DHS admits that Venezuela is emptying its prisons and sending its criminals across our southern border.

Here in Beaufort County, we need to stand strong with our law enforcement to fight crime. I am excited at the prospect of working with our new sheriff to enhance the capabilities of our sheriff's office. I believe that Scott Hammonds has the vision and leadership experience to run a very effective department.

I look forward to working with our new sheriff to replace the present rent-a-cops in school security and courthouse security. I believe that the sheriff's office would be more effective and efficient in both roles. With the county commission's help, the misunderstandings between the schools and the sheriff's office that occurred in the past can be rectified. A new sheriff with a new attitude can help resolve that situation.

In particular, I want to work with our new sheriff on assigning personnel to focus on the criminal gangs, like MS-13, and even the Mexican crime cartels. We need to be ready if they show up in force here in Beaufort County. MS-13 is already well established in parts of Virginia and has some presence in parts of our state.

To the benefit of better law enforcement for our citizens, I think we will be seeing a much more cooperative relationship between our new sheriff, the county commission, and other government bodies. From my discussions with Scott, he also has a good handle on budgeting, so our law enforcement resources can be most effectively and efficiently applied where they are needed. I stand ready to work with him on that.

The right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms helps deter crime. There have been many cases where the presence of a good guy with a gun has stopped a crime or mass shooting.

Here in Beaufort County, we have been able to advance the 2nd amendment rights of our people. I put forward a series of resolutions to open many of our county government buildings to allow trained and vetted concealed carry permit holders to carry in those buildings, enhancing the safety of both employees and citizens using them. That project faced the spirited opposition of two of my opponents in this election, Ed Booth and Frankie Waters, but we ultimately prevailed.

I humbly ask for your vote and support for another term on the Beaufort County Commission.

Please visit my website at standeatherage.com, or email me at stan@beaufortcountynow.com to discuss any issue. If you would like to offer support, especially by volunteering or placement of a yard sign, please contact me as well.

Sincerely,

Should Beaufort County's Commissioners fund more projects, while adding to the county government work force, or, should these servants to the People work to cut wasteful spending, and give the taxpayers of Beaufort County a break on taxes, possibly starting a new purpose for their existence?
Yes, please spend more; so much needs to be done in Beaufort County, and we need more government employees doing it.
No, please work to be frugal; more mindful that this is the public's money, and return to taxpayers what is not absolutely needed.
Why should I pay attention to stuff?

Inarguably, the policies of the Democrats in congress and Joe Biden as the Executive is plunging the United States into a recession, if we are not already there; a recession that was completely avoidable. Will abrupt changes in policies occur in time?
Yes, the Democrats have a bold plan, yet to be revealed, to save us.
No, there will have to be a complete undoing of the damage done by these Democrats.
I can't do simple math, so how am I to understand the concept of basic economics.
