ENCNow

Austria's populist / nationalist right anti-immigration party, the Freedom Party, is surging in the polls and is now tied for the most popular party in the country.  The party takes a very hard line on immigration issues.

The Freedom Party is now tied with the Social Democrats at 26%.  Behind them is the tradtional conservative Peoples Party at 21%, and then the Green Party at 11%.  The Freedom Party has been trending up in the polls and the Social Democrats trending down.

Austria neighbor Italy just elected a coalition of populist / nationalist right and tradition conservative parties.

In the Austrian state election in Tyrol in September, the Freedom Party surged to win the second largest number of seats in the state parliament, behind the Peoples Party which came in first.  The Social Democrats and Green Party both lost seats.
