Mrs. Anna Jo Doughty Congleton | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mrs. Anna Jo Doughty Congleton, age 82, a resident of 6411 Hwy 17 South. Chocowinity, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Ronnie Gurganus, Pastor Frederick Dixon and Pastor John Carter. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.

    Mrs. Congleton’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Congleton was born in Beaufort County on January 4, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Henry Small Doughty, Sr. and Ella Parks Doughty. Mrs. Congleton retired from the Dye Winding Department at National Spinning. She was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and was active in the Women’s ministries. Mrs. Congleton was known for knitting doll outfits to be sold at church auctions.

    On June 2, 1978, she married Alton Earl Congleton, who survives. Surviving with her husband are her children, Carolyn Evans and husband, Jeff of Williamston, Ray Hann of Edward, Carol Spain, Teresa Cale, and Wayne Congleton all of Washington; one sister, Betty Lou Neth of Georgia; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Congleton was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Small, Jr. and a sister, Frances Respess. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home, 6411 Hwy. 17 South, Chocowinity.

   Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 569 Carrow Road, Chocowinity, N.C. 27817.
