Donna Davis Matthews | Eastern NC Now

    Donna Matthews, age 95, a resident of New Bern, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

    Donna was born on November 11, 1927, in New Castle, Indiana to Ralph Davis and Ruth Derrickson Davis. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1945 and married Edwin Bennett (Ben) Matthews in 1947. Donna and Ben lived in Hagerstown, Indiana for many years. They worked at The Perfect Circle Corporation, where Donna worked in Corporate Communications.

    Donna and Ben retired to Florida in 1982, living in Lantana and Hobe Sound. They had many great friends in Indiana, Florida and Canada, and enjoyed golfing and travel. Donna moved to New Bern, NC in 2010.

    Donna was predeceased by her parents, husband and daughter, Valerie VanMatre. She is survived by her son-in-law, George VanMatre, Jr. of Chocowinity, NC; her grandson Dr. Reed VanMatre of Raleigh, NC, his wife Gail VanMatre, and great-grandsons Aaron and Joshua VanMatre. They will cherish her memory and the great times spent together.

    The family especially thanks the staff of McCarthy Court and Homeplace of New Bern for the loving care they provided to Donna during the last years of her life.
