Joyce Smith Woolard | Eastern NC Now

    Joyce Smith Woolard, 78, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 following a period of declining health. The family will receive friends Friday, February 8, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy. 264 E., Washington, NC.

    Mrs. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on December 13, 1934 and was a daughter of the late George Washington Smith and Thelma Lee Bennett Smith. She was a graduate of East Carolina University and a member of Old Ford Church of Christ.

    She is survived by her son, Dennis Woolard, III and his wife, Kim; her daughter, Sally W. Sandy and her husband, Joseph; and three grandchildren, Samantha Woolard, and Joey and Patrick Sandy, all of Morganton. She is also survived by a brother, Delma Smith and his wife, Mary of Chocowinity; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Betty Sue Harris of Morrisville, NC, Sonny and Frances Swain of Greenville, Bill and Kathy Woolard of Atlantic Beach, and Reba Smith of Chocowinity; and many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Woolard, Jr.; brothers, Otha and Dennis Smith; her twin sister, Loyce Godley and her husband, Max; and by her sister, Evelyn Lilley.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Woolard’s honor to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
