    Mrs. Nellie Virginia Douglas Noble, age 91, a resident of River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington, NC died February 3, 2013 at River Trace.

    A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. February 7, 2013 at Manteo Faith Baptist Church, 1037 Burnside Road, Manteo, NC. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Thomas Gallagher, III, Andrew Gallagher, Mia Cooney, Macie Cooney, Tori Jefferson, Tanner Jefferson, Michael Van Etten, Matthew Van Etten, Jamie Van Etten, Michael Elliott, Brooke Elliott, Tyler Moore, Emma Noble, Christian Johnson and Daniel Johnson. Visitation with food will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. Interment will take place later. There will be no ceremony at the Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

    Nellie Virginia Douglas Noble was born in Hyde County on February 27, 1921. She was one of eleven living children born to Samuel Selby Douglas and wife, Sarah Elizabeth Harris Douglas. She married Arleigh Baxter Noble on July 2, 1938. Surviving children are Bill Noble and wife, Ann of Manteo, NC, Richard Noble and wife, Amy of Pinetown, NC, Wade Noble and wife Ricki of Yorktown, VA and a son-in-law, Phelpie Edmondson of Manteo. She was predeceased by her husband, Arleigh Baxter Noble on July 26, 1988, a daughter, Annette Noble Edmondson on July 23, 2003, and eight brothers and sisters. She has two living sisters Mary Alice Douglas Bunting and Lucy Elizabeth Douglas Gibbs.

    Her grandchildren are, Lori Noble Gallagher and husband Tommy, Lisa Noble Cooney and husband Todd, Wendy Noble Jefferson and husband Chris, Heidi Noble Van Etten and husband Jim, Donna Lynn Edmondson Elliott and husband Mike, Carol Edmondson, Jolie Noble and Michelle Noble Johnson.

    All of her grandchildren remember her for the great cook she was. Some of the local children in Belhaven, Vicki Cox and Billy Ruark to name a few enjoyed eating at her table. Even though she was disabled for many years, she brought a lot of love to her family and friends.

    In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, or to the charity of one’s choice.
