William "Bill" Martin Hayes | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mr. William Martin "Bill" Hayes, age 80, a resident of Chocowinity, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at his home.

    Private services will be held later.

    Mr. Hayes was born in Norfolk, VA on August 5, 1942. He was the son of the late John Jacob Hayes, Sr., and Louise Doxey Hayes. Mr. Hayes served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a retired Public Works Supervisor for the City of Washington.

    On December 15, 1960, Mr. Hayes married the former Gertrude "Trudy" Hayes, who preceded him in death, May 6, 2015. Later, he married Judy Campbell, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Crystal Ann Schneider and husband, Adam, Nancy Yvonne Paschall, Amy Sue Meynardrie all of Chocowinity; 10 grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

    In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by two brothers, John Jacob Hayes, Jr., Roy Edward Hayes and sister, Frances Hayes Hodges.
