On October 21, 2012 at approximately 9:02 pm, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of a Domestic Dispute on Chandler Road in Chocowinity, NC. Deputies responded to the residence and learned there was a firearm in the home and a resident was a convicted felon. The handgun was then seized by Deputies who discovered that the weapon had been altered to remove the serial number. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

As a result, Investigator Brad Shakelford applied for and obtained warrants charging Johnny Ray Fillingame, age 52 of Cayton Road in Chocowinity, with Possession of Firearm by Felon and Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Number and Angela Gail Fillingame, age 39 of Chandler Road in Chocowinity, with Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Number.

    On February 7, 2013, Johnny Fillingame turned himself in and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis. On February 8, 2013, Angela Fillingame turned herself in and was held on a $2000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.
