Weather Advisory: Icy Conditions Expected | Eastern North Carolina Now

For Immediate Release: Weather Advisory

Good Afternoon:

After a telephone conversation with Forecasters at the NWS at want to bring you the latest information concerning the approaching weather system. Some counties near and adjacent to Beaufort County will likely receive notification by weather advisory concerning the possibility of "Black Ice" conditions on their highways very early (4:00am to 6:00am) in the morning Friday, February 22, 2013.

I think based on the current forecast, we have a possibility of spotty (protected or elevated) roadway conditions that could lend themselves to the formation of "Black Ice" in the early morning hours tomorrow. I would suggest a word of caution to employees who might be traveling from counties South of Beaufort on their way to coming to work in the morning use extra caution and watch for changing road conditions. The risk of "Black Ice" formation after 8:00 am tomorrow is less than one percent and the remaining precipitation from this frontal system should be of the very wet variety.

First Responder vehicles should avoid traveling over the US 17 elevated By-Pass bridge during the time period 3:00am through 6:00am tomorrow morning if possible. All response vehicles please take the approach that "Black Ice" could be present on any elevated bridge structures throughout the county during that same time period.

I will update this message if the National Weather Service advises me of any changes. Please remind our employees to remain "Weather Aware" in their travels.
