UNC BOG prohibits wokeness in hiring and admissions | Eastern North Carolina Now

By:  Buzz Cayton
Maybe our misguided bastions of higher learning are finally catching on.
This “Creeping Socialism” has been going on for three generations now.
When I attended UNC in 1955 there was a cartoon hanging in the Social
Studies building that showed a young graduate at the college gate with his
diploma in his hand saying, “Here I am world with my AB Degree”. The
drawing depicted the World with scars and bandages on it saying, “Step on out
son and I will teach you the rest of the alphabet”.
Maybe the real world is finally getting through to our finest minds.
Below is a recent article by One America News.

The University of North Carolina is leading the charge against woke culture in universities
by having voted to ban diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements, as well as compelled
speech.
The decision was voted on during a Board of Governors meeting on Thursday. After the
meeting was concluded, the board released a statement regarding their decision on DEI.
The statement read that the university “shall neither solicit nor require an employee or
applicant for academic admission or employment to affirmatively ascribe to or opine
about beliefs, affiliations, ideals, or principles regarding matters of contemporary
political debate or social action as a condition to admission, employment, or
professional advancement,” and that employees or applicants “can’t be solicited or
required to describe his or her actions in support of, or in opposition to, such beliefs,
affiliations, ideals, or principles.”
President of Color Us United, an organization that has been pushing universities to ban DEI
across American schools, Kenny Xu told Fox News that the school’s decision will have “have higher implications for higher education across the country.”
“We believe in a race blind, meritocratic society with high standards and that’s what
has traditionally produced excellence in the United States,” he said. “When we saw
wokeness and DEI infiltrating the medical profession, that’s when we became
concerned because medicine is the one place where everybody knows, liberals,
conservatives, independents, that you need the most qualified doctor to get the best
outcome. When diversity, equity and inclusion says ‘No, you need doctors of a certain

race’ or ‘No, we need to be teaching things from the lens of social justice rather than
the biological practice of medicine,’ that’s when we got concerned.”
This is a step in the right direction. Let us hope and pray that we can turn this mess
around and clean up our local school system and see the need for teaching real
history and real tolerance along with a moral point of view. Maybe we will get back to
learning the real alphabet.

I appreciate the UNC BOGs putting a stop to the allegiance to woke politics statement requirements in our places of higher learning. It's mighty disturbing that we are experiencing things like this within the institutions of our constitutional republic. I'm just wondering where the UNC BOGs have been in the decade leading up to where we find ourselves today.
