    Mr. David Angus Carter, age 76, a resident of North Shores community, Washington, died Monday, March 6, 2023, at his home.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the First Methodist Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Ken Hall. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Shanon Carter, William Carter, Michael English, Nelson Johnston, Frank Johnston, and Bryan Ross.

    Mr. Carter was born in Washington, N.C. on February 22, 1947. He was the son of the late William Baker Carter, Sr. and Janie MacLean Carter. Mr. Carter was a loan officer for 20 years at Bank of America and 24 years for East Carolina Farm Credit. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Carter was a past member of the Optimist Club and Jaycees. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting quail, boating, jogging, weight lifting and spending time with his grandchildren.

    On December 4, 1971, Mr. Carter married the former Vivian Toler, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife is son, David Angus Carter, Jr. and wife, Darlene of LaGrange and their children, Ava Justeen Carter and Emersyn Caroline Carter; daughter, Jane Carter Thompson and husband, Charles Derrick Thompson of Wilmington and their children, Mary Dylan Thompson and Carter Van Thompson; brother, William Baker Carter, Jr. and wife Linda of Pocatello, Idaho and Homosassa, FL and two nephews, William Baker Carter III and Shanon MacLean Carter and wife, Barbara Dell.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, N.C. 27889 or First Methodist Church, 304 West Second Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
