Holman Frederick Cox | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mr. Holman Frederick Cox, age 89, a resident of Washington, NC passed away Thursday the 9th of March 2023 at his home surrounded by his devoted wife Linda Cox and family after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's.

    Graveside services with military honors will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, conducted by Pastor Travis Boyd.

    Holman was born in Bath, N.C. on 11 June 1933 and was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Foncie Cox and Iantha Una Andrews. He was the grandson of Jesse F. Cox of Bath and Mary Myrtle (Scrap) O'Neal. The great-grandson of James Henry (Jim) Cox of Bath and Jack-Ann Evans and the great great grandson of Benjamin Cox and Calvenia Bird of Bath.

    He was in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 and served aboard the USS YORKTOWN. Holman returned to Washington after his service and worked as a shift supervisor at National Spinning, which he enjoyed and made many friends there. Later, he was a car salesman for more than 27 years. He retired in 1993 after being diagnosed with Parkinson's, selling his part ownership in Variety Motors. Holman will be remembered for his love of horses and teaching his children and grandchildren to ride and care for them, along with many treasured memories. Even in retirement, and after being diagnosed with Parkinson's, he continued his lifelong passion by opening a feed and tact store.

    In addition to his wife, Holman is survived by his sister, Shirley Cox Mayo Wiggs of Washington; step daughter, Jan Cox McMillion and husband Phill of Cary, N.C.; daughter, Gay Ianne Cox of Washington, son Tracy Cox and wife Pam of Pinetown, son Casey Cox and wife Paula of Washington, step son Fred Thomas Jones III; grandchildren, Bonnie McMillion, Phillip McMillon and wife Melissa, Reid Roach, Kyle Cox and wife Jesse, Adam Cox and wife Lilly, Drew Cox; step grandchildren, Justin, Nathan and Jacob Jones; and great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Kyle and Allison McMillion, Waylon and Lydia Cox, and Noah Jones.
