    Mrs. Glenda Smith Nepper, age 84, a resident of Washington died Tuesday April 4, 2023, at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington.

    A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday April 12, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by her son Gerald Perry, and son in law David Thigpen.

    Mrs. Nepper was born in Halifax County on September 21, 1938, daughter of the late Kasper Charles Smith and the late Irene Dover Smith. Mrs. Nepper was a tower operator for the NC Forestry Service prior to receiving her degree in Cosmetology from Edgecombe Community College, where she was also an instructor. She owned and operated a Salon in Tarboro, NC. Upon relocation to the Outer Banks, she also owned and operated two Salons in Nags Head and met her loving husband, Philip. They relocated to Grandy, NC where they became members of Poplar Branch Church and were active in the Coinjock Coast Guard Auxiliary. Years later they relocated to Washington, NC where they would retire. They were members of Chocowinity Baptist Church and continued to be active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

    Mrs. Nepper is survived by her son, Gerald "Sandy" Perry and daughters, Shelia W. Davis, Sherrie W. Thigpen her husband David, and Debbie Florence; grandchildren Brent and Crystal Webb, Van and Heather Webb, Ricky Davis, Chris Davis, Holli W. Matthews and husband Michael, and Blair Walker, and Timothy Walker; and great grandchildren: Will, Travis, Ryan, Brady, Josh, Carley, Zoie, JJ, Chris, Chase, Chandler, Camden, Aubrey, Kegan. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Nepper; brothers: Tony, Buddy, and Dickie Smith; and her son, Timothy Walker.

    In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorials to be made to ECU Home Health & Hospice, 1005 WH Smith Blvd., Greenville, NC 27834 or to Cardinal Hospice Care, 2807 Neuse Blvd. Suite 13, New Bern, NC 28562 or the Humane Society.
