    Retired Gunners Mate Steve Auborn, resident of Washington, NC bit the dust on April 17, 2023, at 68 years old.

    The misplaced Yankee was born on April 12, 1955, in Syracuse, NY to the late Richard E. Auborn and Eugenia June Laundre'. After graduating from Onondaga Central School in 1974 he served his country in the Army Reserves for nine years before realizing the Navy was better. It was then that he enlisted with the Navy and went on to serve an additional twenty-one years before retiring as a Gunners Mate 1st Class. In 1987 he met and married his beautiful bride, the former Beulah Leigh Woolard, who by no surprise is still kickin'. While affectionately known as a sarcastic PITA, Steve was also known for his exceptional taste in music, sleeveless t-shirts, and the love he had for his favorite mutt, Humphrey.

    Surviving with his wife, Beulah W. Auborn, is his one and only (and the absolute best) kid: Alburnie "Abbie" Overlease and her Jarhead husband Olin of Garner; his three grand-rugrats: Erika, Emerick, and Viktoria Overlease all of Garner; a sister: Linda Fay of Syracuse, NY; and a brother: Michael Auborn who is on permanent vacation. He had another sister, Marsha, but she croaked a few years before him.

    The family will welcome friends Tuesday April 18, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. A graveside celebration of life officiated by Thomas Hamilton will be held Thursday April 20, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers include William & Ryan Taylor, nephews of the PITA.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated. Steve requested any memorial contributions be made in his honor to Shriner's Hospital for Children (23900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607) or his personal home of worship: Journey Church (P.O. Box 1301 Washington, NC 27889).
